At Legacy Taekwondo we provide our students with flexible access to classes. Students of each rank have at least 3 classes per week that they are able to attend. They can attend every class available to them, or just one a week if that is what best accommodates their schedules. As students advance, more class opportunities open up without any additional charges to the monthly rates.
As you read the class descriptions you will see the term "real self defense" used frequently. This term refers to recognizing situations, avoiding problems, and when necessary handling the real situation effectively and not a flashy TV version self defense.
Legacy Taekwondo offers 3 types of classes in order to provide options to different student interests:
1. Traditional Taekwondo Classes, 2. Competition & Sparring Classes, 3. Fit to Defend Classes
1. Traditional Taekwondo Classes - These classes focus on Traditional Taekwondo skills, language, and culture. In these classes, students learn the kicks, blocks, and strikes associated with their rank, the Korean terminology associated with those skills, and how to apply those skills through self defense, one steps, and forms. We also focus on discipline techniques, the methodology behind the skills - such as the how and why of different techniques, and the cultural relationships between their skills and the Korean culture from which those skills originated. Any of the classes listed on the schedule that are offered for "All Belts" or a specific range of belt colors, i.e., orange belts and higher, will focus on Traditional Taekwondo Skills and testing material.
2. Competition & Sparring Classes - These classes deal with the sport side of Taekwondo. Many tournaments include 3 different event options: forms, board breaking, and sparring. Students at Legacy Taekwondo are encouraged but Not required to participate in competitions. Thus, these classes are designed specifically for students who wish to participate in the "sport" side of Taekwondo. In the Competition Classes we practice the Taegeuk Forms, which are sanctioned by the Kukkiwon (the governing body of the World Taekwondo Federation). We work on Form presentation, tournament rules, appropriate behavior, poise, and attitude during competitions. We also focus on breaking techniques and combinations of techniques. Theses classes are geared toward those wishing to compete; however, students that want to spend more time exclusively focusing on their forms or board breaking practice are welcome to attend the Competition Classes. The Sparring Classes focus on Olympic Style Taekwondo Sparring, including fundamental sparring techniques and combinations, foot work, ring management, competition rules, and conditioning. Students who participate in these classes must also regularly participate in the Traditional Taekwondo classes described above. We do not train students who just want to fight or compete at tournament but do not have a respect and appreciation for the martial art itself. However, students who participate in these classes regularly do not have to compete, they can participate purely for the interest of further developing and rounding out their Taekwondo martial arts skills.
3. Fit to Defend Classes - These classes are designed specifically for the participant who does not wish to advance in rank in Taekwondo or compete, but who wants the intensity and style of a martial arts workout and wants to learn self defense skills. We believe that self defense skills are best executed when they are a reaction to the situation at hand, when they have been practiced so repetitively that they are part of one's muscle memory. Our goals, through the fitness part of this class, is to help participants develop the aerobic stamina, strength, power, agility, and balance necessary to be effective. By including self defense instruction and practice at the end of every workout, the participant will develop the muscle memory that allows one the ability to defend themselves naturally and effectively if necessary. The Fit to Defend class includes 40-45 minutes of martial arts inspired strength and cardio exercises. Participants will actually be making contact with bags for kicks and punches, as well as participate in body weight and band strength resistance exercises. The last 15-20 minutes of class focuses on self defense skills. This class is available for men and women 14years and older. Participants do not have to be involved in the Traditional Taekwondo classes. Participants from the Traditional classes can also participate in these classes for extra conditioning.

4-6 year old classes are specially FUN classes focusing on the basics of self defense, proper kicking/striking, and social skills. This class is designed to build self confidence, physical skills and enthusiasm for the art of Taekwondo! Children will develop better balance, body control, and improve their ability to concentrate. Any student 4-6 years old and potty trained can participate in this class.
7+ White Belt classes focus on the basics of real self defense, proper kicking/striking, situational safety, and social skills. This student base will build self confidence, cultivate positive attitudes and life skills. These skills will prove helpful in school, church, and in other life situations. The white belt classes give the student a jump start into the world of Taekwondo, and allows them to earn their first skill based measurement and advance to Orange Belt.
Orange Belt and Higher classes are Beginner Classes for any age. The classes focus on the basics of real self defense, proper kicking/striking, situational safety, and social skills. This class is designed to build self confidence, cultivate positive attitudes and life skills. We have separate adult classes to cover these skills, however adults may choose to participate in these classes. There is no sparring in these classes that would risk injury between adults and children.
Green Belt and Higher classes are Intermediate Classes that focus on the real self defense, advanced kicking/striking, situational safety, and social skills. This class refines and advances the skills covered in the Orange Belt classes. The goals remain the same, but the ability to meet those goals is becoming more of a reality for the students. Their confidence shows in all areas of their lives. Parents tells us that they can see the child's positive attitudes in their daily activities. The team building, self defense, and personal safety exercises are all being applied to more demanding situations.
Blue Belt and Higher classes are Upper Intermediate to Advanced Classes that focus on the real self defense, advanced kicking/striking, situational safety, and social skills. This class is designed to build self confidence, cultivate positive attitudes and life skills. It includes team building exercises, self defense and personal safety.
Red and Black Belt Class is a Strictly Advanced Class that focus on the most advanced and dangerous real self defense, advanced kicking/striking, situational safety, as well as instructional skills and the finer details of Taekwondo, its background and foundation. This class is designed to build self confidence, cultivate positive attitudes and life skills, and prepare students to perform their black belt test and be able to teach the art and skill they are practicing to other students. It includes team building exercises, self defense and personal safety.
Home School Classes - Legacy Taekwondo does offer home school classes, which included all ages and ranks. The classes focus on the skills listed above based on the level of the students participating in the classes. Contact us for information on class days and times.
All Belts Adults Only - These classes are designed for students ages 16yrs and up. We accommodate students of multiple skill level in the same class. However, the teaching style is geared more toward how adults learn. Also, we understand that adults of different ages and fitness levels may need exercise accommodations to allow for maximum participation with minimum risk of sports injuries. We accommodate these differences accordingly, always with the goal of challenging people to improve their fitness abilities at a safe pace.
All Belts All Ages Sparring - Classes focus exclusively on the skills and fitness exercises necessary to prepare students for the Sport of Olympic Style Taekwondo Sparring. We focus on improving strength and aerobic stamina, effective sparring combinations, ring management techniques, and rules of competition.
